How will new Ofsted school ratings work?
Ofsted, the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills, is introducing a new school rating system that will focus on the quality of education provided by schools.
The new rating system will place more emphasis on the curriculum offered by schools, as well as the personal development and well-being of students.
Schools will be rated on four key areas: quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management.
Under the new system, schools will no longer receive an overall rating of ‘Outstanding’, ‘Good’, ‘Requires Improvement’, or ‘Inadequate’. Instead, they will be rated on each of the four key areas mentioned above.
Ofsted believes that this new rating system will provide a more accurate and detailed picture of a school’s performance, allowing parents and stakeholders to make more informed decisions about schools.
Schools will be expected to provide evidence of how they are meeting the criteria for each of the key areas, through lesson observations, student interviews, and examination of school policies and practices.
The new Ofsted school ratings will be implemented in September 2019, with schools being inspected under the new framework from this date onwards.
Overall, the aim of the new system is to drive improvement in the quality of education provided by schools and ensure that all students receive a high standard of education.
It remains to be seen how the new Ofsted school ratings will affect schools and how they will adapt to the changes in the inspection process.
